Patients, service users and professionals from the hospital and residence take part in an event filled with enthusiasm and camaraderie.
On 22 May, Hospital Hestia Esquerdo marked its 147th anniversary by holding the first “For a Healthy Life” race. The event was a great success, bringing together 79 service users and patients, alongside 10 professionals from the centre who joined the competitions.

The race was divided into three categories: Walkers, Runners and Sprinters. In the Walkers category, which had 51 participants, the winners were Primitivo, Javier and Sandra. In the Runners category, with 13 competitors, the winners were Ricardo, Pablo and Íñigo. Finally, in the Sprinters category, with 15 sprinters, Alberto, Adrián and a tie between Marco and Víctor took the podium places.
In addition to their enthusiastic participation in the races, patients, service users and professionals made a notable contribution both on the day and during the preparations. These included making posters, the podium, certificates and race numbers, as well as coordinating the warm-up, led by experienced runners Carlos and José, who played a crucial role in preparing participants physically.
The event’s judging panel consisted of Emilio, Jesús and Sol, all patients and service users at the centre, who did an admirable job assessing the competitors. The lively announcer Andrés provided the entertainment, sharing his enthusiasm with everyone present.

We particularly recognise the work of the Occupational Therapy team at Hospital Hestia Esquerdo, who were responsible for organising and running the activity. Their dedication and efforts were instrumental in the success of this initiative, promoting the health and wellbeing of everyone taking part.
Hospital Hestia Esquerdo’s first “For a Healthy Life” race was a clear example of togetherness and community effort, underlining the importance of physical activity and team spirit in promoting a healthy life. Through activities like this, the Hestia group reaffirms its commitment to the overall wellbeing of its patients and service users.
