Hestia Health Esquerdo has collaborated with Fundación Canis Majoris, an organisation specialising in animal-assisted interventions, within its occupational therapy programmes. Over the past year, this initiative has taken place in both the inpatient units and the centre’s residence, creating spaces for innovative care and emotional connection.
The sessions have involved carefully selected and trained dogs, always accompanied by specialist professionals. These therapies seek to enhance the wellbeing of the people receiving care by incorporating emotional, wellbeing-related and sensory stimuli.
These interventions have proved to be an effective tool within the person-centred care model. Their benefits include cognitive and emotional stimulation, as well as improved mood. They also help reduce anxiety and stress while encouraging communication and social interaction.
At Hestia Health, we would like to thank the Fundación Canis Majoris team—Irene, Antonio and Montse—for their warmth and professionalism, as well as Han, Randall, Amazon, Bollo and Umma, who brought a unique dimension to every session. At Hestia Health, we will continue to promote initiatives connecting emotion, care and quality of life, reaffirming our commitment to comprehensive, approachable care focused on people’s wellbeing.
