On 11 April, to mark World Parkinson’s Day, the Hestia Duran i Reynals Day Hospital became the focal point of an innovative charitable initiative. With the aim of raising awareness of this neurodegenerative disease and providing tangible support, the ‘Golf con Parkinson’ association organised a golf promotion day with the backing of the Federació Catalana de Golf (FCG).

The collaboration between the two organisations made it possible to install a mobile inflatable golf range and a putting mat in the hospital grounds, giving patients, families and medical staff the opportunity to take part in sporting and educational activities. The presence of Emilio Cuartero, a professional Challenge Tour player, and Marc Izquierdo, an FCG golf sports instructor, brought a particular level of excellence and expertise to the event.

Alongside the sporting activities, the ‘Golf con Parkinson’ association set up an information area presenting its aims and projects, as well as merchandise featuring its new logo. Among the items on offer, the collection of stories ‘A la sombra del Parkinson’ offered an intimate, personal insight into the experiences of people living with the disease.

The event, held ahead of the first ‘Golf con Parkinson’ Charity Tournament scheduled for the following day at Club de Golf Barcelona, received an overwhelming response from the community, demonstrating a tangible commitment to the fight against Parkinson’s. All funds raised during the tournament are earmarked for research promoted by the ‘Golf con Parkinson’ association to explore the potential therapeutic benefits of golf for patients with Parkinson’s.

This event represented not only an effort to generate awareness and support for people living with Parkinson’s, but also an inspiring example of solidarity and collaboration between different social stakeholders in the search for solutions and hope.
