At Hestia Health, we continue to move towards a mental health care model that extends beyond the care setting and actively connects with the community. In line with this approach, the Mental Health Service at Hestia Health Duran i Reynals has incorporated the community programme “Camina, fes salut i coneix L’Hospitalet” into its therapeutic approach.
This initiative, promoted by L’Hospitalet City Council, has been integrated in a structured way into Occupational Therapy, with the aim of creating therapeutic contexts in everyday settings and facilitating connections with real community resources.
The programme includes non-competitive short-distance walks adapted to participants’ pace, combined with visits to different facilities in the city. In this context, physical activity acts as a therapeutic tool for working on behavioural activation, emotional regulation, social interaction and re-establishing habits.
Participants are accompanied by the occupational therapist, who integrates the activity into the individual goals of each therapeutic process, turning a community activity into an intervention with care value.
This approach reinforces a person-centred, recovery-oriented care model, promoting independence, reducing isolation and facilitating community integration.
Through this initiative, Hestia Health Duran i Reynals continues to strengthen an approach aimed at connecting clinical interventions with local resources, putting existing community initiatives to therapeutic use.
