“Milestones for Equality” Mural: An 8M Initiative at Hestia Esquerdo

To mark International Women’s Day on 8 March, the Occupational Therapy Department worked with service users from Residencia Hestia Esquerdo over several workshops to create a mural entitled “EFEMérides for Equality”.

Over several days, participants researched information, discussed issues and shared experiences in different activity groups, showing great involvement and dedication. The entire process was deeply enriching and raised awareness of the current situation in the fight for women’s rights.

The result took shape in a mural which has been on display since 8 March in the reception waiting room at Hospital Hestia Esquerdo, where it has been seen by many of the people who visit the hospital and residence every day.

The residence’s women’s group also wanted to take an active part in the community activities organised in the city. Following a decision at their monthly group meeting, they visited Espacio de Igualdad Lourdes Hernández, where they joined workshops and recreational learning activities such as self-defence, games about feminist culture and spaces for reflection. For the occasion, they made purple flowers in the craft workshop and returned to the centre with a strong sense of satisfaction, learning and pride at having paid tribute to all the women who have fought—and continue to fight—for our rights.
