The patient experience, a new look for physiotherapy

The fourth International Physiotherapy Congress 2026, held in Barcelona, featured Esther Sardà Rico, Physiotherapist and Therapies Coordinator at Hestia Health, as a speaker on the roundtable “Espai Fisiopacient. A l’altra banda de la llitera” (“Physio-Patient Space: On the Other Side of the Treatment Couch”).

The panel brought together physiotherapy professionals who, at some point in their careers, had also undergone treatment as patients. Their contributions offered an opportunity to reflect on the healthcare professional’s perspective when personally experiencing a process of care and rehabilitation.

Drawing on her experience following a serious accident in 2024, Esther Sardà Rico shared a perspective that combines clinical practice, the coordination of multidisciplinary teams and the experience of being a patient. This dual perspective highlights empathy and listening as elements that enrich the therapeutic relationship and support care that is more personal and better adapted to each individual.

Her participation contributed to the exchange of knowledge and experiences around comprehensive rehabilitation and the humanisation of care, in line with Hestia Health’s values and our commitment to professional, personalised and humane care.
